Wanna see something funny?

Today's Greeting
I was crouched down watching the feeding area to get more shots of the brown thrasher fledgling and this little guy crept out of the rocks....I had spilled some seed, and he wanted to check it out.

Whatever

Today's Greeting

Fledgling Brown Thrasher - one of 3 (I think)

Found this in John's files from last week at Shenandoah - he sneaks around making pictures of me making pictures. lol

Ahh, Spring!

Well, shoot! (No pun intended) I was getting this set up to post tomorrow AM, and hit the wrong key. I just don't have the heart to delete it and do it again, and it seems once you hit "publish" you can't undo it. So, OK, two today - none tomorrow....or maybe, who knows what tomorrow will bring.

This is something I love to do when the image is suitable...

My photography instructor friend calls it the "Ellis Effect."

Back On-line

Today's Greeting

Baby Album

These babies fledged 4 1/2 weeks ago, and all five are all doing well. One is bigger than the others, one is much smaller. The second brood hatched last Saturday - 4 or 5 - I can't tell for sure. One egg was still there Sun AM, and it's gone, but the nest is deep, and I can't count them.

Wading Pool.....

Splish Splash....

Can I get out now, mama?

Yellow-billed cuckoo in our bird tree.

A few from Shenandoah..
Singing Veery..

Chestnut-sided Warbler

Female Redstart

And another peek at the newborn fawn.

Remember

My dad served in the US Navy during WWII. I thought these photos that he made would be appropriate for Memorial Day.

"...For those in peril on the sea..."
Raising Old Glory..

Have a wonderful holiday, and remember all those men and women who have served in our military forces.
I am setting up your greetings for the next couple of mornings, and probably won't post again till Wednesday AM, when hopefully, all this internet problem will be fixed, thanks to the Geek Squad! I will try to look at your blogs in the meantime.

Technical Problems

I'm doing this on an ancient laptop, which is the only computer in the house that seems to be connecting to our wireless network...which means I have to move the pictures onto this, etc, etc. So, I might be a bit erratic with posts and comments till I can get somebody over here to fix it.
Today's Greeting

This is a view of the Shenandoah Valley from Skyline Drive, in Shenandoah National Park. It's beautiful, but today it was cold - about 40 when we got there this morning. Brrrr!

Oh, my cup runneth over! This tiny newborn fawn was resting by the path - Mama was nearby, watching closely, but I got a bazillion shots - I kept hoping it would lift its head up, but all the pix have the grass in front. I didn't want to traumatize the baby or mom, so very reluctantly I went on.

Birding was good, but I didn't get any of the photos ready to post. We saw veery, lots of redstarts and chestnut-sided warblers, blackburnian warbler, indigo buntings, and the ever-present towhees and catbirds.

It was a good day, except that my camera came loose from the tripod mount and fell on the path! I can't believe it, but it seems totally fine. Olympus touts this camera as being rugged, but this is amazing!

I'll post and comment as I am able till everything is working again.

Skywatch

I was doing moon shots one evening at Shenandoah National Park, and this wonderful owl flew into my picture. Bless him!

Today's Greeting

Decided to skip baby album for today, and post a skywatch. This was taken last summer in Florida - at Cape Canaveral National Seashore..

Thank You, Stacey

This morning I had a wonderful surprise. I received a notice from Stacey (A Focus in the Wild) that she had passed an award, shown above, to me. I am humbled that my blog helps make someone's day brighter. Thank you Stacey. Now, according to the rules, I must pass this on to fellow bloggers whose words and photos help to make my day. Oh, there are a LOT more than 5 of you, but these are 5 of my favorites:
1. My Bird Tales
2. "AUNT B'S BACKYARD"
3. Maine Nature Photos
4. Maine Through The Lens
5. Saskatchewan Birds, Nature and Scenery

Baby Album
"Not again!"

When we left for Occoquan NWR today, it was overcast, and looked as though it would stay that way...............BUT, by the time we arrived, the sun was out and bright. So we looked up into the bright sun, and shot up into the bright sun, and had to be thankful that the bright sun hasn't entirely disappeared, even though it makes for rough shooting conditions.

This eastern kingbird on a wire was the first bird we saw within range.

A huge flock of cedar waxings was enjoying the cherries.

A tiny blue-gray gnatcatcher flitted around.

And an indigo bunting dazzled me with his beauty.

We also saw tree swallow, red-winged blackbird, mallard, an immature male Baltimore oriole (Hurray!), cardinal, osprey, yellow warbler, mockingbird, song sparrow, prothonotory warbler, bluebird, and one tiny goldfinch...that's all I can remember. The sun went back behind the clouds 10 minutes after we left!

Wordless Wednesday

I thought I could do it, but I have trouble with "wordless." Everybody have a great day!
