More Backyard Birds

Today's Greeting

Baby Album

Quiet moment

I got lucky this morning - I heard some very loud cheeping, and three carolina wren babies flew in, right in front of me...I think they had just fledged - they stayed on the ground a lot.

This one decided I needed a nice pose.

This was funny - it looks as though he's seeing if anyone is home - he was actually drinking the water droplets.

The End

Not quite - I need to make a correction..the warbler from yesterday is a blackpoll, not a black and white, warbler. The top of his head is solid black, not striped, as a b&w would be.

Found in the Bird Tree

Today's Greeting
This photo was actually taken by my husband, but it was the next card.
John is a much better photographer than I am, and he taught me everything I know.

Baby Album

Hey lady, take my picture. I'm cute too!

This was exciting...I saw movement in the bird tree, and thought I could see black and white through the foliage. I assumed at first it was a chickadee, but then it moved out enough for me to get a good look....Black and white warbler! Not seen here before.
NOTE: This is a blackpoll warbler. Thank you, Bluebirder, for pointing it out.

Black and white bird in the bright sun with heavy shadows doesn't make for the best exposure, but it was the best I could manage.

One last click; then he was back out of sight.

Mothers Day Gifts

Today's Greeting

Baby Album

Before and in between family Mothers Day activities and downpours, we managed to get in a few shots...AND we saw a Baltimore oriole in our "bird tree!" Oh happy day! (Would have been a tiny bit better if either of us had gotten a photo!) We have 5 bluebird fledglings (15 days post) and 5 eggs in the nest!

The Carolina wren has babies under the porch... Something to crow about!

The blue jays don't usually nest in my yard, but I think this one is. He's here pretty much all the time, and it's driving the cardinal pair nuts.

See, her feathers are ruffled.

This handsome guy has a bunch of new fledglings - really cuties, with their little "horns."

OK, Mr Oriole, if you want this, you'd better come and get it!

Gotta love peanuts!

The eastern wood pee-wee sat uncharacteristically still for his photo-op.

And Scamper wonders how he can get around that baffle!

Another shot of my clematis.

I couldn't be with my mother today, but she was very close in my heart.

I hope each of you had as wonderful a day as I did, full of family and love and beauty.

Skywatch? Nope - Can't See It.

There was certainly no way to skywatch today. It stormed all night, and continued to rain through the morning. We decided to ride out to Shenandoah anyway, just to see. What we saw was clouds, drizzle, and fog.

Today's Baby Album Photo

5 fledglings and more to come soon...

This clematis will bloom throughout the summer. It's the first one I've ever been successful with.

The wind was blowing the columbine, but I snapped it anyway.

I'm not sure what this is - it is in my neighbor's garden, and I trespassed.

Shiny and loud.

No light on this one, so no shine. (or maybe a female, or another blackbird altogether?)

Something - probably a raccoon, destroyed this wonderful seed/pecan cake during the night, and this little bandit was having a feast.

The downy WP, eating away on what's left of it.

Ending the post on my favorite note.

You Did What?!!

I can't remember the last time I didn't pick up a camera all day! I'll have serious withdrawal problems if it happens again. But thank goodness, I have my stack of cards to share...So here it is: today's card. Enjoy.

And, just so you can keep up with my little brood of wonder-birds, here's another baby album photo:

Aw, you love him better than us!
