Magic Moment

OK, it's NOT July 2 - I thought I could set up a few old posts with greetings for the next few days, but looks like maybe not! So - here's an old post, and the new "today's greeting" is at the end, properly labeled July 1! (???)
From August 27, 2007..........
We were sitting out on our balcony having our coffee at SNP very early this morning - the view was magnificent, with the moon still shining, and the mountains misty. Very quietly and daintily, two fawns walked out into the clearing in front of us.
They started running and playing like a couple of puppies (or little boys!)

They ran together and separately, kicking their heels in apparent joy at just being alive on a beautiful morning in the mountains.

Back and forth, around and around.

They would rest a moment from time to time.

Then more races.
They were joined by 3 does - this one seemed to be the mama of both - maybe one or both of the other does were yearlings.

More playing (with big sister?)

Family Portrait (you can see the 5th one's ears in the foreground.)
It was amazing, and seemed to be a show put on just for us. I don't think I breathed the entire time - could hardly (believe it or not!) even think about photographs.

Last year I saw young fawns frolicking in our field. It was a sight to behold...didn't get any good pictures of it like you did though!

These are so much fun!! It's wonderful that they didn't mind you being there. Your yard is a wildlife wonderland! I love these pictures.

Deer are a favorite of mine to try to photograph and fawns are even more fun and hard to get. How thrilled you must have been to get this lively little family. Loved every picture! Thanks so much for sharing them with us!

What a fun and carefree day they are having. Gives us a lesson to take a break and play every now and then.

Lovely family. Being there was probably as great as getting the photos.

VERY cool. I have only seen deer do that one time, and it was really entertaining!

(BTW, I think your mystery tree may be a mulberry???)
