Just Passin" Through...

White-crowned sparrows don't nest here, but this one made a brief stop Sunday morning.

Hi Helen, Until I started birding, I didn't realize that there were so many varieties of Sparrows. I just knew about the pesky little brown ones being around where I grew up.

Now I am finding that there are some gorgeous Sparrows--like the one you showed. Amazing!!!! Thanks.
Hugs,
Betsy

Lovely markings on his head, and so different from the Sparrows we get here.

Beautiful white crown, quite different for our common Tree Sparrow here

The same thing happened here. I had at least one, possibly more that were here several days and I took a ton of photos as the ones I had taken the year before were not that good. These are excellent. The bird didn't seem to be afraid.

I still have a few with me. They spend their time under my feeders picking up seeds other birds have dropped.

Travel is always best in retrospect. More and more these days I just prefer to stay home ... I wonder what those migrating birds thing?

White crowned, chipping...how does one keep track of the variations which to me can be so subtle!

We have a gazillion (at least) of these under our crab apple tree! I'd never seen one before, but they sure are fun to watch. Love the shot!

I remember when a bird was just a bird, and then I discovered sparrows like this one and fell in love. Great photo!
