New Year, New Bird

Well, not exactly a new bird, but new to my backyard. I have never seen pine siskins at my feeders before, and the past few days, I have had a bazillion! I love them; they are so tiny and busy - they squabble among themselves even more than the finches. So welcome 2009, and welcome siskins.

I love watching Siskins in their groups too. This one looks very healthy and happy. Wishing you happiness and continued good birding in the New Year. Thanks for your nice Comments at Natural Moments. I look forward to your next discovery.

Helen - I agree w/ you - I didn't realize the siskins squabble so much amongst themselves - quite humorous to watch! Great photo!

You lucky people who can feed the birds and so get to see them! My only hope of attracting them is with a bird bath since water in summer is not aways to hand in our dry land.
What a cutie your little Pine Siskin is, and so wonderfully captured.

How very lovely! I don't think I've ever seen a pine siskin - but they look a lot like sparrow/finches to me so maybe...

BTW - I haven't had ONE goldfinch this year! Well, that could be because I got a new goldfinch feeder and a week later, the squirrels threw it on the ground and ate through the plastic to get at the seed. I really am beginning to dislike squirrels intensely.

Hope your 2009 is full of many blessings, Helen. It's been such fun getting to ~know~ you over these last months.

Here's to the promise of a good tomorrow for all of us!

Aren't they cute? I know they flock in and eat until the feeders are empty, but I prefer them to the alternatives. :c) Happy New Year Helen.

Great shot and a great way to start the new year. I'm getting tons of chickadees and nuthatches to my feeder.

That's a great shot of a pine siskin! They are rather cute. When they mix in with the goldfinches there is such a "sameness" I feel like they are really just little stripped goldfinches. Great start to the year!

Helen, I do wish I could send you dozens of the Pine Siskins that are currently invading our feeders. Nice photograph, even if it is a siskin.
