This is the day!

It's still dark, and I'm at my daughter's house to keep my 3 grandchildren while she and her husband go to the inauguration. She has "purple tickets" that will get her a seat with the staff so she will actually see the inauguration - if they can get from Union Station to the Capitol. I was up at 4:30, to walk Emily and feed the birds before I came...we walked in the dark, but when I got on I-66, the east/west freeway, it was already crowded. I had planned to open Backyard Boutique after the swearing-in and speech, but it's hard to figure how long it will take for Ruthi & Doug to get out of the city - but this is special. It was 18 degrees while I was driving..I think the wind chill is 9!
It's a very hopeful day.

Good morning Helen. So many people going to DC hoping to just catch a glimpse. If not a glimpse, just to be part of this historic day.

I can't help feeling a little sorry for Obama. What an enormous task he has before him.

How wonderful for your daughter and hubby! Our school is assembling everyone in the auditorium so we can watch the entire inauguration. I think I would have had to call in sick if they hadn't done that.

It IS a very hopeful day!

Schools here are closed....so many of the parents work for the government, which is closed down today. So the boys and I will watch it together. They are excited - they have followed the whole process.

Such a big day for all Americans, a very long and cold one for you, but you will enjoy the grand children and they will remember they were with you for this great day. Lucky children to actually be there.
Even we expect so much from the new president, I wonder how he can cope with such expectations!
