What in the world....?!

Today's Greeting
It was a busy week-end - We had a fall festival at the shopping center on Saturday, and the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, for whom my son is a tuba player, had the first concert of the season yesterday....it was wonderful; beginning with the national anthem and ending with 1812 Overture....I had the chance from time to time to look at some of your posts, but very little time to comment, and no time to post. (Gosh, I HATE to use the same word 4 times in one sentence!..and there, I used it again!) Usually when someone asks me something about birds, I tell them what is commonly accepted, but I usually add, "but they can't read, so they don't know this and just might do sonething else entirely!"
.............as in the case of the goldfinch drinking nectar from the hummingbird feeder.....

.....and the yellow-rumped warbler coming to the porch rail feeder - he actually nibled on some of the dried mealworms! (As a matter of fact, I just wrote an article about fall bird migration for my community newsletter, and I made a point of saying the warblers are beautiful to see, but "they won't come to your feeders." Oh, why didn't I say "probably?"

............a flock of bluebirds..there were actually 11 of them, but I got this, and by the time I got another camera with a wider lens, they had moved around so I still couldn't get them all.

Birds do surprise and amaze all the time. You think you have their habits figured out and then they do something different just to keep us on our toes :-) Great shots! I think my flock of Goldfinches would eat just about anything at the moment! I have so many, I don't have enough feeders for them! Lovely bluejay on the card as well as the other photos! I guess the reason I don't see Warblers is because they won't come to my feeders....now that I've said that, maybe one will get obstinant and come :-)

Love the photos. I've noticed that once in a while--a bird doing what they shouldn't. Someone forgets to tell them I guess. Great photo of the Jay. Can't think of a bird that seems to rejoice more than they do;)

I got a chuckle from that little goldfinch with its head bent at such a funny angle to get to the nectar. Very entertaining image. You must have been chuckling yourself when you saw that little bird.

Helen: What a wonderful set of photos. Those Bluejays are so pretty but are always on the run. I saw four in one tree today at lunch. I love that Bluebird photo.

my favorite was the goldfinch at the hummingbird feeder. Birds do surprise us sometimes and if we are on our toes and lucky we can catch it in a picture. Great shots and love your dialogue too!

Great post today - i love when the birds do something you don't expect! the Blue jay was beautiful - looking so nice against the branches and blue sky. Laughed at the gold finch on your nectar feeder - precious!

Awesome post today! Loved the bluejay! He seemed to have a larger crest than most, unless it was the angle.
I just shake my head at the thought of 11 bluebirds all together. You must have "birdcrack" they are addicted to ;0>

Sounds like a busy time indeed. Animals never do what we think they should. I had a neighbor one time telling how he hates (and shoots at) the red tail hawks because they eat all the chuckar.. I told him that they do not, they eat mainly rabbits.. well later that evening a redtail came off the hill behind our house and "smucked" a chuckar in the front yard... should have said "usually" don't eat chuckar... lol..
