Yesterday we had a visit from Hanna...The night before it started raining and rained off and on through the night. When I went to work yesterday it was dark, gloomy, and raining hard. The rain increased through the morning; we developed a leak over the back door of the store, and only one person had been in all day, so we put up a sign and left. The rain stopped and the wind started blowing....it huffed and puffed and tried to blow my house down! About 3 the power went out, so I decided to take a nap - woke at 5, and all was quiet - and the power was still out. Power was restored about 8:45, but then discovered the cable for the internet was out. That just came back a few minutes ago. I shot the picture below a little after 5 - used the "toy camera."
BTW, discovered this morning that our thermostat also "blew" - well, I hope it's just the thermostat!

When will America learn to put all the cables underground? That is so not 20th but 19th century. Aside from improving the vistas with out power and phonelines - it safer and in the long run much cheaper. But no...
It's ridiculous that a tropical depression can knock out power for hours.
Well at least you're done with! :)
Have a great Sunday!
Cheers, Klaus
Oh what a bad storm..hope everything turns out well..
I'm doing good!!!
love to you..Deena
I love your bird cards..
I think you had it worse off than we did, even though we are only a few miles down the road. We didn't lose power, it was a little windy and up the street even though it rained very hard. One side of the main road was closed off by a policeman just as we drove by, it being under water. Would have been difficult for the people to come out of their driveway. They would have been stuck for a while. Glad it wasn't worse. I wonder how other areas are as I haven't turned on the news yet.
Ups, forgot to say lovely photos as always :)
It's the mark of a great photographer to take that shot with a "toy" camera. It is lovely.
We got no rain at all from Hanna, but Ike looks promising. Hope your problems are limited to the thermostat. Glad you weathered the storm.
Hope everything gets back to normal soon! The picture is beautiful.
I couldn't agree with Klaus more!! We got that huge ice storm here in 1998, no power for 15 days!! Why didn't they put the lines underground...how much that would save in the long run!!!
Whew Helen! Glad it wasn't worse. And hoping that the thermostat is an easy repair.
Hanna was a fast mover...good!
With all the news about the storms I'm glad you're okay. Hope things are back to normal for you soon.
That shot of the sky is just beautiful!
Wonderful picture of after the storm! I'm fortunate to have underground cables in my neighborhood, so we seldom lose power for any length of time, unless a car hits a pole somewhere further away.
Helen: Thanks for showing the wonders of the Pink Water Lillies. Glad you made it through safely.
We missed getting rain from Hannah in southwest Virginia. This time of year, it seems the only way to get rain is from remnants of a hurricane but I wouldn't want to have the power outage. Great photos of the birds!
