Yummmm...

Today's Greeting
This is the last in the 2005 series - tomorrow we start 06.
We have a small farmers' market in the parking lot of the apartments just outside our neighborhood. John went with me today, and while I shopped, he clicked away. These people get up at dawn, harvest crops and drive here from 150mi away.....really fresh, wonderful produce. No need for me to caption these, just scroll and drool.

Virginia wines, jams, all sorts of goodies....

Honey (not all the bees are gone!)

Fresh-baked breads...
And earlier today, I heard plaintive, very loud cries...it was this young hawk....it was HUGE, but clearly a baby...yellow eyes and typical baby bird cries....It was so loud, all the prey within hearing had likely taken cover, and mom and dad had to go away to find food....sorry about the photo quality, but it was about noon, bight sunshine, and he was several hundred feet away, very high up. I still was happy to catch him mid-cry.

Oh how I need to go to the farmer's market. Something that I have never actually done. But more and more I want to. Seeing these pics really makes me hungry for the fresh fruits and veggies. As for your moth in the previous post, it is definitely a Rosy Maple Moth. Very gorgeous image of it along with the Swallowtail and the Monarch Butterflies. In my area I have actually seen a few more butterflies this year than in the past few years.

flat beans....my very favorite and only found at farmer's markets.

It's amazing how similar the market are from one area to another. I support ours as much as I can. The work that goes in to them is just amazing. We had an article in our paper that said if the vendors don't have at least a $1500 day, it isn't worth their while to come as they can't break even.

CELEBRATE THE FARMER! We won't survive without them!

Great pics of our local farmer's market. The produce is beautiful and it is hard to resist the baked goods. What winery was that?

Today's greeting captured both birds expression perfectly - too cute! And I'll take one of everything at your farmers market!

I hope that these times we will see a revival of those local farmer markets and of farming in general.
Beautiful images you're showing!
Cheers, Klaus

Helen: That looks like a great market and it should draw a lot of people. I agree that any hawk capture is worth taking.

The last of the 2005 was a winner! Just an amazing set of babies! I would drool a big puddle and get my feet wet to get your shots!

The farmers market was delightful. Makes me want to buy, cook and serve. I love fresh fruits and veggies, they are an inspiration to another of my passions...cooking. The hawk at the end was a great catch . . . crying for food!!

LOL were you hungry?? I just love home grown fruit and veggies. The baby hawk cracks me up. I alway wonder what the parents are thinking, so unlike humans.Could you imagine a human trying to hunt for servival with such a noisy child.(wink) and we think we are the servivalists... thanks for sharing!
