Not Much -

Busy, busy today - and lots of wind, so not many pictures.
Today's Greeting

Here they are!

Brood 2 for 2008...there were 5 eggs - but 4 chicks. There is a mealworm shortage due to some sort of parasite, but as soon as I found out, I ordered 40 cases of dried ones for the store, so they are still getting plenty. They are so fat and full, they don't even open their mouths when you open the box -

Brood 1, the bottle babies, are still here - this one is much smaller than the others, and still begs.

OK, bird girl, this isn't going to make you real happy, but I couldn't resist. The red-bellied WP worked so hard last fall making this cavity, then the starlings stole it. Fortunately there haven't been too many of them, but this morning when the parents were trying to coax this baby out of the nest, about a dozen "relatives" came and sat around on the nearby branches and chattered and whistled and sang....looked for all the world like the hospital waiting room!

Great post. I like the picture of the young bird with the blue tips on its wings. I don't get to see bluebirds close up here, so it's fun to see them in all stages of growth. Your starling "waiting room" is appropriate for me today. My niece is in labor right this minute with her first. LOL :) Outstanding post, as always!

I like that starling photo, the one bird outside the hole seems to be encouraging the one inside. Living in the country I never see starlings but when I was in the city they were as common as pigeons. It's the squirrels that steal the nest boxes around here.

Helen: Very interesting post today, I enjoyed your story about the visitors to the maternity ward.

LOL... good description Helen!

My second brood of three should fledge any day now, but the bottle babies are still around, though begging less.

I loved the image of the starling 'waiting room' to get the baby out of the nest. Neat! My favorite picture is on down to the last post of the Robin giving up the cherry to the baby! Nice photos... Great job bird lady!

How fun to have the whole family there to witness the first "steps".

I'm upset that the starlings stole the cavity but they kind of make up for it with their cute baby. great post!
