I haven't been...Thanks for stopping by, Helen. I haven't been blogging as much either-too much going on.

Your question inspired me to do a lengthy post on photographing calf elk today so it should be helpful to you.

Until I retired I spent most of my time photographing elk during the rut, but now I try to go about 3-5 days a month from May through September and I will have to say that I have not been especially successful at getting the calf photos I would like to have.

I realized after posting that I failed to mention the "where" aspect, but bearing the factors I did discuss in mind. good options are Driving Winslow Hill Road and two side roads, which branch off from it known as Dewey Road, and Porcupine Road.

Rt 555 from Weedville to Driftwood (this is the main road that passes through Benezette) follows the course of Bennett's Branch of Sinnemahoning Creek and elk may be seen in places along this drive. An excellent place to find calves is to cross the river bridge just past and to the right of Benezette Store as one is traveling toward Driftwood. There is a big creek bottom directly on the other side of the bridge which elk often frequent. The key though is that they are usually seen either very early or very late, often when the light is not the best.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask, either by commenting on my blog or by e-mail. I intend to spend most of next week there and should know more about the situation this year when I return. As I explain in the post, it is probably better to go from mid-July on if you are wanting the best chance of seeing calves.Willardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17059945499957721902noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3278375708372684323.post-27353559587636135942009-06-13T09:54:22.153-04:002009-06-13T09:54:22.153-04:00Ten and a half hour drive?
